Making the Move

As many of you know, I was in the education field for a decade. During this time, I worked mainly as a kindergarten teacher and as you can imagine, I was on my feet all day and those adorable littles kept me moving. Although I was active outside of the classroom as well, lifting weights, running, and various other cardio activities, I could easily reach my activity goal teaching alone.

I changed jobs and my lifestyle changed too. My workout routines also slowed down and that combination was detrimental to my waistline. When I changed jobs, I did so for many reasons, but mainly because I needed less stress in my life. However, the less stressful job also meant I had time to sit down after work instead of continuing to go, go, go. My kids were also older by this time and off doing their own thing.

All this sitting had felt good, I was catching up on Netflix shows, reading more, and hanging out with my pets. Although I enjoyed being less stressed, I didn’t enjoy not fitting into any of my clothes. I know health and nutrition, I thought, I will just start watching what I am eating and get back to my old self. Wrong! I think my age had caught up with me and that change alone wasn’t enough, something had to change.

In addition to watching my food intake, I began walking as much as I could on my breaks, but my job is unpredictable and I often need to run errands for our family or our business on my lunch hour. I just wasn’t able to get in the amount of movement in a day I needed to. The Walkingpad changed that for me! I have had treadmills in the past and hated them. When I trained for a half-marathon I had a treadmill in my garage and would use it if the weather was rainy, foggy, or windy (I’m a fair-weather runner). I hated every minute and would peek outside every five minutes or so to see if I could go outside. When I had a treadmill in the house, it was mostly used as a dry rack for the clothes I didn’t like to put in the dryer (didn’t want my jeans to shrink)!

Adding this small treadmill to my living room changed everything. I began walking while I watched the news with my husband in the morning, I would walk after dinner in the evening while we watched shows together. I no longer felt like I had to fit in a workout or wait for the weather to be just right, I could walk anytime. I loved it! The weight slowly started to fall off and I am happy to report I can fit into most of my clothes again. Things just change as you get older and you have to take the initiative to toss those old jeans and buy some new, stylish, mom jeans!

You will not regret adding a Walkingpad to your home or office. They are so slim, that they will slide right under your couch. I am thinking about getting a second one for my office as soon as I can get it approved by my company. It will fit right under my desk and will allow me to feel good about getting a workout in and still have time to run all the errands. Small changes can make the biggest difference, this is one you won’t regret.
